Abhyasa Culture and Philosophy:
Organizational culture refers to the institutionalization of a group of individuals working living together with some common objectives for a common goal. Culture is a "shared meaning" that produces that common understandings amongst its members and also distinguishes an organization or group of persons from other groups.

Abhyasa is an organization built on the time tested foundational strength of Indian Culture and Ethos, but believes that every individual is truly a world citizen and part of the Global Human Fraternity - based on the pristine masim: "Vasudhaiva kutumbakam The Earth is family"!

The School nurtures certain Indian Values in the students, right from touching the feet of elders to celebrating festivals of all religions with customary fervour. Students also practice Yoga, Meditation and Vedic Recitation etc.

While the school provides a comfortable residential facility - it consciously discourages snobbish life style and encourages simple living and high thinking. The emphasis is on community living, sharing and caring for each other.

Abhyasa lays emphasis on including the following attitudes in its students.

  1. Reverence to parents and teachers
  2. Respect the wisdom of elders and all religions
  3. Trust and co-operation among peers
  4. Loyalty towards the Nation and service to the needy
  5. Faith in one's conscience and spiritual outlook towards life

While establishing a shared perceptual framework, we should not be seeking too much homogeneity or standardization. Plurality and Diversity in society needs to be acknowledged. Alvin Tofler, the author of "Future Shock", identified the tendency towards standardization and uniformity as the reason for disintegration of societies. Recognizing the diversity permeation through the social fabric, Abhyasa has accepted the following features as its organization culture to achieve total quality management:

  1. Discipline: growth oriented - Effectively balanced with freedom of expression
  2. Student - teacher interactions - a right balanced between formality and informality.
  3. Inter - personal relations - a right balanced between independence and interdependence.
  4. Intra - personal relations - a right balances between sensitivity and courage.
  5. Abhyasa is one of the few co-educational schools in India, which is purely residential in nature and has been established to provide equal opportunities and fair chances to both the sexes - to study within such an educational system. The only objective being equal opportunity and not unhindered freedom to explore relationships.
  6. Dignity of Labour - Students are empowered to serve, to make them understand the value of work - through social service and self-reliance.
  7. Conservation of environment, energy and natural resources is advocated.
  8. Group Dynamics - right from a class III student to the Principal, togetherness exists as a single family - with a right balance between love and respect.
  9. Leadership - contributes apart from control; hence teachers - at the primary school act 'as an authority with love' - at the secondary school act 'elder friends who guide'.
  10. Discrimination - apart from extending co-operation and support to their peers; students are encouraged to compete with teams of other schools.
  11. Religious Tolerance - the unity and essence of all religions is experienced by visiting the mosque while celebrating Id-ul-Fitr at end of Ramzan month and recreating the nativity of Christ on Christmas eve apart from visiting the church on December 25th every year and celebrating other Indian festivals.
  12. Networking - In the new age, networks are considered more important than nations. Sharing of knowledge and technology is essential and inevitable. Otherwise an individual or an organization becomes incompetent or redundant. Abhyasa is sharing educational technology with several other schools, through exchanges or interaction and networked to other ISC schools across the country.
